Auf dem nördlichen Gipfelplateau der Berghalde "Hoheward" in Herten wurde 2008 das Horizontobservatorium errichtet, das der astronomischen Beobachtung dient und Besuchern die Orientierung anhand der Himmelsbewegungen ermöglicht.
