- Grant applications are submitted online. As part of the online application, an organization must provide a profile. The organization profile is to be certified annually & information to be provided includes - 1) irs 501(C)(3) determination letter; 2) number of full-time, part-time staff & regular volunteers; 3) organization mission; 4) service location; 5) types of services provided; 6) financial statements & 7) board of directors list. The grant application consists of 4 sections - 1) program overview; 2) program information; 3) total program budget & 4) supporting documents & certification. For program information, the applicant must include information regarding - 1) organization description; 2) problem or opportunity; 3) project overview; 4) activities & expected results & 5) funding plan. If applicable, an addendum for capital requests must include information regarding - 1) capital campaign & 2) construction.

- August 1 & March 1 of the fiscal year.
- Restrictions
- Part 1 of 3-THE foundation's priority interests are arts, culture, & humanities; education; environment; & human services. The foundation May make grants in other areas of interest at the discretion of the trustees, but unsolicited proposals outside its priority interests will not be considered. Applicants must have internal revenue code (irc) 501(C)(3) public charity status or must apply through a fiscal sponsor with 501(C)(3) public charity status. The foundation does not make grants to supporting organizations classified under section 509(A)(3) of the irc. The foundation does not generally fund loans, endowents, funds for re-granting, conferences, festivals or similar one-time events, religious programs, activities that have already occurred, scholarships, grants or direct cash payments to individuals or for the benefit of identified individuals.

- Restrictions
- Part 2 of 3-APPLICATIONS from a unit of the university of hawaii must be submitted through the university of hawaii foundation. A grantee May not receive more than one grant in any fiscal yr (July through June), except that a grantee serving as the fiscal sponsor for another organization May receive a second grant for its own project. Fiscal sponsors are eligible to sponsor multiple projects at a time, including their own; however, the foundation's guidelines below, regarding ongoing funding & support for two consecutive fiscal yrs, will apply to fiscally sponsored organizations, as well as organizations serving as fiscal sponsor. The foundation generally does not provide ongoing funding, support any one program for more than two consecutive fiscal yrs, or fund any one organization for more than two consecutive fiscal yrs.

- Part 3 of 3-THE foundation May choose to fund over a number of yrs. In the case of a multi-yr pledge, payments are released in twelve-month intervals, & each payment is contingent on receipt of a satisfactory progress report. The foundation generally awards grants up to $20,000 but will accept grant applications exceeding this amount. Trustee sponsorship is no longer required. Requests for more than $5,000 should demonstrate that the cooke foundation portion of the budget does not exceed 30% of the total project budget. Incomplete applications or applications from organizations with overdue reports are not accepted. Before an organization receives a new grant, all previous grants must be completed with the submission of a final report through the grants portal.

- Applications must be submitted by February 3, 2025.
- Restrictions
- Nominees for the beautification award must be hawaii public elementary, middle or high schools, including charter schools. The foundation plans to award $5,000 in 2025 to one elementary school, one middle school & one high school, that have completed projects that significantly add to the overall appearance & ambiance of the school through landscaping or other campus improvements. A total of $15,000 will be awarded. Participation by outside organizations, including businesses, is permitted; however, no advertising will be allowed. This awards program recognizes previously completed projects; requests for support for future projects will not be considered.
